Shawn Vann, 52 of Halifax Township, violated a Protection From Abuse order and attempted to see his ex-girlfriend around 10 a.m. on Thursday.

Initially, police shuttered Elmer Avenue in Halifax Township, Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Megan Frazer announced shortly before 1 p.m.

"All citizens should avoid the area," she originally urged. That warning ended just before 8 p.m. when Trooper Frazer announced that the suspect was in custody and the area was opened to the public.

It is now known that Vann "broke into the above residence, recovered firearms and fled on foot," PSP Trooper Alex Ebbert said in an updated release.

State Police's Special Emergency Response Team was activated, and a search was initiated. After searching the surrounding area, they received a report of an "individual matching the subject’s description [...] at a local campground," as stated in Ebbert's release.

Vann was located and taken into custody by PSP SERT, according to Ebbert.

He was charged with a felony for Trespassing, but "additional charges on Vann were filed through night court," Ebbert said.

Those additional charges were the following according to court documents:

  • Homicide Criminal Attempt - Criminal Homicide.
  • Misdemeanor Recklessly Endangering Another Person (three counts).
  • Misdemeanor Simple Assault.
  • Felony Possession of a Firearm Prohibited.
  • Felony Aggravated Assault - Attempts to Cause of Causes Serious Bodily Injuries to Designated Individuals.
  • Felony Criminal Trespass - Breaking into a structure.

He was denied bail by Judge Rebecca Jo Margerum "due to the nature of charges and threat to [the] community at large" during his preliminary arraignment at 10:14 a.m. on Friday, May 31, as stated in his second court docket.

His preliminary hearing is set before Judge Margerum at 9:30 a.m. on June 19.
